Oskar is such a strange kid. I probably say this every blog but he is. His mind is like no other. My favorite line in this story is when he is thinking about a memory of when his dad was explaining how moving a single piece of sand changes the world. "I changed the course of human history!" "That's right." "I changed the universe!" "You did." "I'm God!" "You're and atheist." "I don't exist!" I fell back onto the bed, into his arms, and we cracked up together. This shows how close his father and he were. This also adds to Oskar's sense of humor. The kid really seems to consider every word he says and he counts the lies he tells, which I think is odd. I believe Oskar is just beginning his journey with his faithful key. He will probably learn some important lesson along the way about himself and his father. I find it sad he is so scared of heightsand bridges, because of what happened to his father probably caused a lot of psychological damage. I can’t wait to read more, I really want to know what his key goes to.

I get what you mean when you say Oskar's odd, but aren't we all? Also, I know what you mean about the psychological damage. If someone in your family dies a certain way, you can't help but be afraid of it and feel a little paranoid about it. This book definitely sounds interesting, so I think I'll have to read this.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Iron nigh about how everyone is odd. And I know how this little boy feels, I am terrified of bridges also, and I think it has to do with not trusting bridges because of what happend to his father.
ReplyDeleteThe more I hear about this book, the more interesting that it gets. I'll have to agree with Iron Knight as well that everyone is odd in some way, its just a known fact and if something tragic happens to a family member then your going to remember those details until the day that you die, its just bound to happen.
ReplyDeleteI really am enjoying this book as well! I think its awesome how the author writes dialogue without "he saids" and "said so and so". It gives kind of a very fast conversational picture. I think you may be a bit further than me because I dont remember the line you're talking about. Way to spoil it!!!
ReplyDeleteOskar does seem a bit funny, and very odd. I personally don't get the line, how does that make him atheist and not exist???? very odd. Sounds like a good book.
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of this book. I don't really like to read all that much, but the way you arebtalking about this book makes me want to read it. :D
